On November 14, a cooperation agreement was signed between Maria Curie-Sklodowska University and Sii, thanks to which the company has formally become the exclusive partner of the Data Science major, conducted at the Faculty of Economics. The signed agreement opens up new opportunities for the development of the said field of study.

The agreement on the part of the UMCS was signed by the vice-rector for development and business cooperation, Prof. Zbigniew Pastuszak, in the presence of the vice-rector for students and quality of education, Prof. Dorota Kolodynska, and the dean’s authorities of the Faculty of Economics. The Sii company was represented by Artur Palac, regional director of the company’s Lublin and Agata Micał, regional recruitment department manager.

Master’s degree programs in Data Science are conducted in English. They are a response to the growing labor market demand for specialists in data analysis. Since the launch of these studies in 2021, we have had no problem recruiting for this major. Candidates from Asia, Africa and Europe are applying for these studies. Here, as in all other majors, we are committed to providing students with up-to-date and practical knowledge – said Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Mariusz Kicia.

The signed agreement formally paves the way for close cooperation with Sii in developing and improving the Data Science degree program. It includes the participation of Sii specialists in didactics and other educational activities for students, as well as joint work on creating new and improving existing curricula to meet the needs of the changing job market.

– The Faculty of Economics has been cooperating with Sii for many months now, including in the Data Science course. We see tangible benefits from such cooperation, students appreciate the classes taught by Sii specialists. New directions of cooperation now provide for the initiation and implementation of joint didactic, research and consulting projects, although the priority for us is the high quality of the offer of classes prepared for our students – added the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics for Educational Quality, Anna Tatarczak, PhD.

In the recruitment for the 2024/2025 academic year, the Data Science major will be offered once again, this time in a slightly modified form.
